Haiti: 2 years after the earthquake

Two years after the devastating 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti there is still a great need for safe, affordable drinking water. Healing Waters is focused on achieving long-term holistic development in communities and today we are working with several outstanding partners to deliver safe water, health and hygiene education, and a sustainable business model to communities in Haiti.

Healing Waters is honored to be partnering with Lakewood Church of Christ (Lakewood, CO) and Chances for Children, a nonprofit that provides orphan care, adoption services, and education for orphaned Haitian children. At the end of this month a water system will be installed in Kenscoff, Haiti at one of the Chances for Children orphanages.

Earlier this week Healing Waters conducted a 3-day training for a team from Lakewood Church of Christ who will be traveling to Haiti at the end of this month to install the water system and train the local Chances for Children staff in Kenscoff. The team will spend three days in Haiti training the Chances for Children orphanage team on the water purification equipment, the health and hygiene curriculum and a site management model to ensure that the water system is operated sustainably. Once installed, the water system will serve 80-100 children at the orphanage and an additional 1,000 people in the surrounding community.

We are still looking for more partners in Haiti, so if you know of any communities that are in need of safe water, please contact Jake Smith, Director of Partnership at Healing Waters.
