The second crucial step requires education that transcends the classroom–and becomes a way of life. Health and hygiene training that is culturally sensitive and contextualized for local needs accompanies each water solution.
Field Training
Healing Waters uses a “train the trainer” model to instruct and certify local teachers and leaders to serve as stewards of their community’s standard of health and hygiene. They receive training and resources to change adult behaviors and raise children with healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
More Than Song and Dance
Although basic health and hygiene lessons are delivered in creative ways, including music and drama, they promise far more than song and dance: they instill the importance of daily habits that can make the difference between sickness and health, life and death. Seemingly simple things like hand-washing and basic sanitation are best learned through a participatory curriculum that encourages engagement and cooperation. Ongoing education is essential to creating lasting, healthy habits in a community.
Body, Mind and Spirit
In keeping with the commitment to holistic community development, health and hygiene training addresses the whole person–body, mind and spirit–and presents the opportunity for education in schools, churches, clinics and community centers.
